Texas Holdem Poker Basics

Texas Hold'em Poker is a community-card game usually played on a single table with 2 to 10 players at a time. The aim of the game is just to win as many chips as possible just by having the best hand ranking, or by having all other players fold before the showdown.

Texas Holdem History

Nobody knows were Texas Holdem exactly came from. It is believed that the first location where the Texas Holdem game was ever played was in Robstown in Texas in 1900. Texas Hold'em Poker gained its popularity from the World Series of Poker Tournament. The World Series of Poker is held annually ever since it’s opening date in 1970 at the Horseshoe in Downtown Las Vegas. Every year since then, more and more Texas Hold'em Poker Tournaments have developed on a global scale.

Texas Holdem Poker Rules

The basic rules of Texas Hold’em are simple. The dealer shuffles the deck. The two players to the left of the dealer pay the blinds, one small and one big. Starting at the player on his left the dealer deals two cards to each player with face down. And the first betting round begins.

The first player has the option to call, raise or fold. After the betting round is over, the dealer deals one card face down called the burn card and three face up cards to the players called the flop. And the second betting round starts. The again the dealer deals one card face down, and one card face up called the turn. Once the betting round completes, the dealer deals one final card face down, and the final card face up called the river. And betting begins. All players still in the hand enter the showdown, where the player holding the best hand wins the game.
